7th Grade Math Summary of Year
Seventh grade mathematics is about (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
Key Areas of Focus for Grade 7: Ratios and proportional reasoning; arithmetic of rational numbers.
CCLS Major Emphasis Clusters
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Sequence of Grade 7 Modules Aligned with the Standards
Module 1: Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Module 2: Rational Numbers
Module 3: Expressions and Equations
Module 4: Percent and Proportional Relationships
Module 5: Statistics and Probability
Module 6: Geometry
Class Grading Website
We have a grading site, PowerSchool for parents. This site allows you to check your child’s grades at any time. I recommend you check the grades once each week as we will have weekly tests, so grades will be updated at least once a week. The school will be sending home a notice with a login and password that will need to be changed when you login for the first time.
Tests
Tests will be taken on Thursday or Friday of each week. Please, try not to miss it. Tests will be returned ASAP. All tests with 69% or lower must be signed by a parent. If you haven’t seen a regularly assigned test by Wednesday, please e-mail or check the grades site to see the score.
Assignments and Homework
Homework is mandatory. Some in class assignments will be taken home for homework. There are few allowable excuses for homework that is not turned in or incomplete. Homework not done will result in the following consequences:
Homework missed due to absence will usually be due the following day after returning to school. But of course, due to the number of days missed, workload, and the reason for the absence, the due date can sometimes be negotiable.
Rules
Consequences
Rewards!!!
The following offenses will not pass through the normal channels:
Thank you for reviewing your student’s packet. Now, all you have left to do is remove this page from the packet and sign the middle of the page with your student. This page is due the next school day after it is sent home. Please, fill in the bottom to let me know about arrangements for your child to get home.
I have read and understand the rules, expectations, consequences, and rewards that my child will be held to in his or her classroom.

Ratios and Proportional Relationships
- Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
- Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
- Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
- Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.

Assignments and Homework
Homework is mandatory. Some in class assignments will be taken home for homework. There are few allowable excuses for homework that is not turned in or incomplete. Homework not done will result in the following consequences:
- The assignment needs to be finished.
- 10 points will be taken from the grade until the assignment is turned in.
- An email and/or a class dojo message will be made after 2-3 days of missed assignments or homework.
- If it continues to be a problem, a homework contract will be sent home which will need to be signed by both the parent and student.
Homework missed due to absence will usually be due the following day after returning to school. But of course, due to the number of days missed, workload, and the reason for the absence, the due date can sometimes be negotiable.
